The evening will comprise a showing of Helena Aksentijevic's film about Tony Greenstein, "An Ordinary Rebel", in which Tony examines the role of Zionism during the holocaust as well as his own journey from Zionist youth to prominent anti-Zionist and his predictions for the Israel/Hamas war.

 

The film will be followed by a discussion between Tony and Luca Salice, co-Chair if Camden PSC and open to questions from the audience.

 

 

Tony Greenstein, Speaker.
Tony Greenstein is a longstanding Jewish anti-Zionist, Marxist and anti-fascist activist from Brighton.  In 1982 he was a co-founder of Britain’s Palestine Solidarity Campaign which he resigned from in 2021 when they abandoned opposition to Zionism.  
Tony was the first Jewish member to be expelled from the Labour Party in February 2018 but not the last one!  
Tony is the author of The Fight Against Fascism in Brighton and the South Coast (2012) and Zionism During the Holocaust (2022).  
He has written extensively on Palestine and Zionism for, amongst others, the Guardian’s Comment is Free, Electronic Intifada, Mondoweiss, Al Jazeera, the Journal of Holy Land Studies, Tribune and the Weekly Worker.  
Tony was the son of an Orthodox Jewish Rabbi and when young a member of the religious Zionist Bnei Akiva, now an integral part of the messianic settler movement.
Tony has recently been sentenced to 9 months imprisonment suspended for 2 years for taking part in Palestine Action protests directed at Israeli arms factory, Elbit. He was also arrested under the 2000 Terrorism Act on December 22 for alleged support for Hamas and is currently on bail.

Luca Salice, Moderator,
Luca Salice is a translator and visiting lecturer at the University of Westminster. He is a committed  antizionist and has been for many years an activist with the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, the largest and most successful organization fighting against Israeli apartheid and supporting the movement for Boycotts, Divestments and Sanctions against Israel. He is currently co-chair of its Camden branch.
