Through the Eyes is a photographic project reflecting on a personal journey of self-representation and identity within Arab culture around the topic of ‘religion’. The exhibition explores how cultural influences play a significant role in societal practises and views about religion, oftentimes corrupting its true meaning and image.

Through the Eyes highlights the pressures of maintaining cultural versus religious values often faced by many Arab women. Each photograph within this series presents particular restraints due to cultural boundaries that often lead to self censorship whilst simultaneously exploring a path towards personal independence, confidence, and self-exploration, often blurring the line between ‘religion’ and culture.

The project aims to shed a light on the artists personal experience with religion, within a feminist context, allowing the audience to understand the conventional cultural norms and discriminatory nature she faced in her native homeland and as a refugee in the U.K.

Through The Eyes aspires to showcase strength and give courage to women of the Arab world, allowing them to always seek their truth.
